We create products!

At Schibsted Marketplace Products and Technology, we create internal tools that will be used by different marketplaces, but also that will be integrated as part of the marketplaces’ end users journeys.

As we are working towards a common objective, we should sepak a ‘common language'.

THE GAP BETWEEN UX AND ENGINEERS

From our recent surveys with both, designers and engineers, we identified a communication gap which we think we can improve to speed up the development process. Checkout some of the findings we got:

  • “The relationship between designers and engineers is a 2 ways road. That means that no only designers need to have technical knowledge but also engineers should have some design knowledge. ‘Don’t be afraid to ask, no question is too stupid!’”

  • “Designers do not involve developers in their design process often enough due to several reasons, and sometimes involve them too late. (link to ux processes are not clear enough for dev)”

  • “Documenting designs (with code examples, competitors functionality or similar) will be a robust way to deliver our designs to engineers”

  • “Around 40% of engineers think that the communication from UX could be improved”

  • “50% of the engineers think that designers are lack of tech knowledge”

The components mindset

In Marketplaces Components we are creating components , partial or complete solutions that provide to the marketplace with an specific service or feature.

INTEGRATED COMPONENTS that don’t work in isolation but they are integrated in the marketplace being able to interact with another elemtents from the marketplace itself or other components.

SELF-CONTAINED COMPONENTS are Internal tools for marketplaces staff or even end users. Depending on the case they might or might not have a branding.

UX ♥ ENGINEERS

The engineers will be the ones bringin UX designs to life. It is important for the UX community to build relatationships with the tech team, understanding that the may have a totally different mindset, backgrounds and different attitudes for problem solving.

If both, UXers and Engineers, can ‘speak a common language’ the communication to develop our interfaces, interactions and animations will be much easier.
